If you spot a cactus twirling paper ribbons through the air, you have probably wandered into Tephrocactus territory. Those famous ribbon-like spines belong only to a few superstar species, however. The genus is really defined by its fragile segments, which snap off easily, roll away, and start new colonies elsewhere. Native to the cool highlands of Argentina, these quirky plants are close relatives of Opuntia.
