Alright, here’s a question for you. Just next to Itami Airport, where massive passenger planes regularly soar overhead, what's the can't-miss shop for succulent LOVERS? That’s right, it’s "Yamashiro Aisenen". While the whole area, centered around the “Osaka Plant Exchange,” is a well-known hub packed with plant businesses, most of them are wholesalers. That’s why "Yamashiro Aisenen," which actually welcomes everyday plant lovers like us, has always seemed like such a rare gem. Or so I thought.
It was just the other day that I discovered something incredible in Toyonaka—a gardening shop that absolutely every kind of garden LOVER, not just succulent fans, has to check out. The place is on a mind-blowing scale, and honestly, I was left speechless by just how overwhelming it was. So, let me report back and try to share that awe as directly as I can.
The shop's name is NOAH Toyonaka Main Store. True to the wholesaler vibe of the area, the shop is built inside a massive 300-tsubo (about 1,000 square meters) converted warehouse. Step inside, and you’re greeted by row after row—mountains, really—of pots, pots, and more pots!
You’ll find everything from pots you can hold in the palm of your hand to giant ones that would take a crane to move. Modern, sleek designer pots you might have spotted at that cutting-edge shop, rustic antique-look designs from another, and honestly, every style you've ever found in all kinds of garden centers, all united in one place right here! Of course, you’ll spot plenty you’ve never seen before anywhere else, too.
And that’s just the beginning. Glass jars, plant hangers, iron stands, driftwood and cork, even antique doors and frames. If you can envision it as "gardening goods," there’s a good chance you’ll find it here—an absolutely unrivaled selection.
What happens when you stand before all these gardening supplies?
“Oh, that’s exactly what I wanted!” “This one’s great, but last time I couldn’t find the right size, so I want to check the lineup.” “Wait—they’re even selling parts from that pot I thought had such cool hardware!” “I was thinking of trying this out… this and this, too. Maybe I’ll even write a new column suggesting alternative plant care ideas.” “If I combine this and that, I could create a pretty cool display style. Or, these two would be perfect for showing off plants in this genre—maybe I’ll work up a special on that.”
Just walking even a little ways, new ideas pour over you. Actually, it’s more than just ideas coming to you—it’s an inspiration downpour.
Now, sure, there are legendary stores with massive selections (like the Farm UNIVERSAL or Ozaki Flower Park), but NOAH has its own totally unique and amazing charm.
And that is: They deal exclusively in gardening goods. Most of NOAH’s products are the kind meant for decorating, so nothing is ever “finished” on its own—there’s room left over for your imagination to fill in the blanks. Stand in front of a pot, and you’ll automatically start imagining what plant should go in it. And that little switch flips on every few steps you take.
No plants on the shelves? Turns out, that’s a huge plus, not a minus! Who’d have guessed? Yet again, my list of must-visit shops has grown.
I took tons of photos, and here they are in quick-fire gallery form! Even with all these, I can’t show off the full selection. Hopefully these shots help you get a feel for just how packed with choices it is.
I had my eye on so many things and could barely resist, but for now, I settled on just these…
The shop is a fair distance from the station (about a 25-minute walk from Hattori Tenjin or Sonoda stations), and if you’re planning to take home lots of goodies, I definitely recommend coming by car. There are 9 parking spots. Open 9:00 to 17:00, closed Sundays.
They’re happy to wrap up your purchases with spare packing material from their shipments, but it’s a good idea to bring your own bags or baskets, just in case.
Cash payments only! Don’t forget. In a pinch, you can walk to a convenience store about 5 minutes away (…ask me how I know!).
Of course, don’t miss dropping in at Yamashiro Aisenen, too! There’s a separate feature article—be sure to check it out as well.
Actually, NOAH Toyonaka Main Store is part of a long-established gardening supplies wholesaler, serving as a showroom-slash-shop where even pros could buy single items. It’s only from January 2025 that the shop opened up for anyone—not just people in the trade.
So,for regular users, it feels like a “brand new” store, but the “effortless, well-organized displays” that make the overwhelming selection easy to browse and pick from—that’s their secret.
Honestly, it’s such an amazing place—I really hope you’ll visit at least once!
