Originally known as "Cylindrophyllum Akifude C. tugwelliae ", this is a mesemb species that forms tidy little bushes with its cylindrical leaves standing upright, reaching about 5–10 cm in height. During its growing season, the leaves are blue-gray, changing to a khaki-gray hue when dormant. True to the mesemb family, it produces delicate yellow flowers. The genus Bijlia is endemic to the area near the South African town of Prince Albert. I've never seen it available in Japan, and when I searched online, examples showing red flowers were likely misidentified " C. alstonii ". Bijlia and Cylindrophyllum species basically have yellow or orange flowers—never red. If you spot a mesemb with red flowers, it's usually a Cephalophyllum; the other features seem to match, too(Bijlia and Cylindrophyllum lack red-flowered examples, but Cephalophyllum is known for them).
