There are two main types of variegated Fukumusume: the "round leaf type" and another form. The round leaves are adorably plump and are especially popular. In China, people liken the round leaves to ping pong paddles, calling them "Pingpong 乒乓." The other is the long leaf type C. orbiculata 'Fukumusume Long Leaf Variegated' . It might just be a coincidence, but after summering my plants, I found that almost all the round leaf ones died off, while the long leaf types stayed healthy. This difference in "hardiness" could be one reason why the long leaf type is easier to find. Even when the round leaf type gets a bit longer, it only reaches the size shown in the MAIN image, so the ones labeled "Daruma" that you see lately are often actually the long leaf type (they might get longer if they stretch, but I haven't confirmed this...).
