A mesemb that displays striking red patterns on a body as smooth and white as porcelain. Its Japanese name is pronounced "Ryouyougyoku." In its native quartz-rich rocky deserts of South Africa, it survives the dry summer months by blending in among pebbles, with rainfall coming in March (autumn in the southern hemisphere). Among Dintheranthus species, it has a form most similar to Lithops, but unlike Lithops, it reportedly does not have a clearly defined dormant period.
