That characteristic wispy growth, swaying like hair in the wind, isn’t actually a leaf—it’s a special structure called an “enation.” The real leaf is a small cushion beneath, supporting it. Its home is the semi-desert region from Robertson and Little Karoo in the Western to Northern Cape of South Africa 南アフリカ西ケープ〜北ケープのロベルトソンやリトルカルーなど where rain falls during the cooler months. From April through October, it unfolds its leaves and soaks up the rain; in February and March, it produces tiny white triangular flowers. Come the parched summertime, all its above-ground parts vanish completely. Underground, little tubers send out runners to help spread new plants.
