A variation of F. cylindraceus . Comparing the display specimens arranged side-by-side at the Kyoto Botanical Garden, this type has spines that appear more yellowish, thicker, and sturdier than the main species which tends to have reddish spines. 'Eastwoodiae' is named after Canadian-American botanist Alice Eastwood. Rather than being a horticultural variety name, it's actually part of the scientific name—so formally, the correct name is the Latinized “eastwoodiae” (though at the botanical garden it's also labeled as “Eastwoody,” which is perfectly fine).
