A Gymnocalycium clad in impressive, thick, round cross-section spines that look highly defensive. The contrast between the plain dark green body and the thick white spines is cool and striking. Scientifically speaking, the varietal name ferocior itself does not officially exist (( G. hybopleurum var.ferocius is mentioned in some references) and it is considered the same species as Otenmon G. castellanosii ssp.ferocius .
