People often affectionately call caudiciform plants “imo” (literally “tuber”), but this one is the real deal—a true “imo.” That’s right, it’s the beloved sweet potato. The genus Ipomoea also includes the morning glory, and interestingly, the sweet potato’s flowers are like small versions of morning glory blooms. However, in Japan, the climate and other environmental factors don’t quite match the sweet potato’s needs, so the flowers rarely appear.
