This morning’s “mystery plant” post featured the buds of Great Blue Lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica), a native perennial of the Mid-Atlantic. Its violet-blue flowers bloom from August to October, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. #mastergardener #mysteryplant
Someone should make a list of all the plants that were supposed to cure syphilis. Just in North America you have sassafras, candelilla (euphorbia antisyphilitica), and blue cardinal flower (lobelia siphilitica)
