This is a petite, somewhat elongated ball cactus characterized by a perfect blend of classic cactus features—densely packed sharp spines—and distinctive Mammillaria charms: a fluffy white coat of soft down beneath those spines. As it grows, it forms dense clumps, so you’ll often spot these impressive mounds in botanical gardens.
Its homeland is the semi-arid, limestone-rich region around Querétaro, Mexico. Most available plants are seed-grown, so you’ll find plenty of variation in appearance, with some plants featuring especially thick, dark, strong spines that are M. parkinsonii ’Azarashi' .
