The long, drooping spines on the bluish body are a distinctive feature of the prickly pear cactus @(8081). It is widely distributed from Mexico to the southern United States. Under stress, its body can sometimes turn a reddish-purple color. The spines start out golden to red when the plant is young, gradually turning black as they age. It produces brownish-pink flowers, and its fruits are even edible.
