“Stonecrop” is the English common name for plants in the Sedum genus (similar to “Mannen-gusa” in Japanese), so the name basically means “white sedum.” Despite that, it’s a chunky sedum that turns a deep wine red in the autumn and a bright green in summer. Its flowers are yellow. So, where does the “white” come from? It turns out the variety was actually developed at ‘Whitestone Nurseries’ in the UK. It’s a hybrid of Echeveria prolifera E. prolifera and Sedum stahlii S. stahlii .
