Echeveria has long sat untouched, a taxonomic salad bowl of anything that looked the part. Recent genetic analysis is now bringing its true shape into focus, and in May 2026 that hand finally reached the familiar faces we all know as Echeveria. Note that the line was drawn by genetics, not by appearance, so these plants do not actually look much alike — and that is the researchers themselves saying so. It is a deep rabbit hole.
