Chorisia speciosa原产于巴西和阿根廷的落叶乔木。由于它的树干像酒壶一样膨大，同时果实里可以采集到棉花，所以被称为“徳利木棉”。在当地的西班牙语中，这种树被叫作“パラボラチョ（パロボラーチョ）”，意思是“醉汉树”。它非常有南国风情，会开放如扶桑花般大而鲜艳的花朵。据说在冲绳和宫崎等地，也有作为行道树种植的例子。个人觉得，与其说树干像徳利，倒不如说那一身的刺更吸引我的注意……。
