Our site, "PUKUBOOK," has always been run as an exclusive "online-only" project from the very start. That’s not just the encyclopedia itself—our official shop, which we started later, is also, of course, an "online shop." Our main focus has always been convenience, so anyone across the country can easily browse and buy.
But now, things are changing. Starting with our very first offline event in the fall of 2024, PUKUBOOK will begin appearing at in-person events. What does an online succulent encyclopedia do offline, you ask? Well, think of this article as your guidebook—or instruction manual—for this new "offline PUKUBOOK" adventure.
Naturally, as I write this, we’ve only tried hosting at one event, so we plan to keep learning (and leveling up!) as we gain more experience.
What sets the "Succulent Shop from the Encyclopedia" apart from other shops—what we truly put our heart into—is our "product descriptions." Usually, succulent shops just list the plant variety name. Here, whenever possible, we display detailed information about each plant: its traits, background story, what it looks like full-grown, how rare or popular it is, and more.
Sometimes, due to space or time limits, we can’t show 100% of the info onsite. But that’s when the "PUKUBOOK Online Succulent Encyclopedia" really shines. You can always search for more details on PUKUBOOK—we promise you’ll find plenty awaiting!
#Or, to say it simply: "(The text is so tiny) I can’t even read it!"—yep, that’s a thing. We’re always thinking about how to select, organize, and display the info in creative ways.
A PUKUBOOK SUCCULENTS signature: we’ll have a big selection of "succulent cuttings" at the event, just like our online shop. And to keep prices easy to understand, we use a simple three-tier system: ¥1000, ¥700, or ¥500. "Just want something affordable to start with?" "Curious about a rare find?" "Looking for the perfect, show-stopper plant?" You can choose based on your mood!
Of course, we’ll also bring along some potted succulents—cuttings we’ve nurtured and grown, not just planted once and forgotten. We'll pick out those that have grown extra beautiful and luxurious, including some special PREMIUM items. Take your time admiring these, as if you were flipping through a real "succulent encyclopedia." By the way, many potted plants come in Meshpots—you can take them home with the pot, as is!
We’ll have the popular “Meshpot” on hand—a pot famous for encouraging healthy roots! Meshpots combine the convenience of plastic with great breathability and drainage. They’re easy to repot and pair perfectly with succulents. Feel free to pick one up and check it out in person. They’re sold individually. Please note: we may charge a small “cash support fee” for cash purchases.
Worried about not getting enough sunlight at home? LED grow lights are your solution. At our event, you’ll get to see a carefully curated collection of LED lights, handpicked for succulents. Wondering, “How far from the plant should I place it?” or “What’s the best way to use them day to day?”—ask us anything! We may also have limited-edition models available only at the event.
We've always been "online-only," and our manager is actually a systems engineer too. This means PUKUBOOK's real secret weapon is its tech-savvy approach! Our shop’s operation is pretty different from the typical "market-style" plant stall.
We want to show our appreciation to our loyal online shop members, so we're offering a special discount! While our online shop has a points system, we can’t do point-based rewards at events. So instead, we’ll give you a direct discount on the spot.
No need for a membership card or anything fancy. Just tell us the "phone number" you registered with online. That way, we can link your purchase to your online account—meaning your purchase history is updated too. For example, if we ever made a mistake with a plant's name and needed to issue a "recall," even your event purchases are covered and supported!
For quick and smooth checkout, we recommend cashless payment methods. And, for an extra twist, we’re offering a special "tap payment discount." Of all the ways to pay, "tap" is by far the fastest. To encourage you to use this method, we’ll offer a little extra discount just for choosing it!
Some shop owners avoid cashless payments because card companies charge them fees. But we’re the opposite—we give you a tap discount, even though it costs us a bit more! That’s how much we value the convenience of "tap payments," so please consider giving it a try.
On the flip side, apologies in advance: personally, I’m not very good at handling cash. To skip the hassle of making small coin change, all our prices are rounded to the nearest ¥100, and we do not provide change for less than that. If, for some reason, you do have an amount less than a full ¥100, your total will be rounded up (for example, ¥455 becomes ¥500).
Compared to tap payments, dealing with cash—making change, counting, and handing it over—takes more time, space, and leaves more room for mistakes. All that is "cost." So, please think of the rounding-up amount as a small “cash payment support fee.” We’d really appreciate your understanding.
We always attach a name label to purchases in our online shop, and we’ll do the same at events. These tags feature not just the date, but also the event name—they’re a little keepsake! Since, unlike the online shop, we need to prepare these in advance, they may run out. If you definitely want one, please come early! (*Note: If you're an online shop member, we can also mail it to you later.*)
This “real-life succulent encyclopedia” shop will be popping up at the events listed below! Most are in Kansai, but we’re planning to travel farther soon. If you’re nearby, come say hi and have a look—you’d make our day!
