Deep purple leaf blades with a champagne-toned shimmer at the center create a dramatic color contrast. The large, wavy leaf edges are gently ruffled, giving the plant an airy, fluttering look—as if it's dancing in the breeze. Especially during seasons with strong temperature differences, the striking contrast between the lush green center and the neon red edges brings out the feeling of a flickering flame. This is an Aeonium that truly puts on a show! Reaching up to 50cm across, it's a large Aeonium indeed; encountering a mature specimen might just make you swoon. As of 2025, it's a fairly high-priced hybrid. This is the variegated form of the hybrid ‘Ice Warrior’—created by Surreal Succulents in the UK (Aeonium smithii A. smithii × Aeonium 'Cyclops' A. 'Cyclops' )—which was discovered in 2020 at a nursery in Shandong, China. Its original name in Chinese was “魅影法師.” Since “Phantom” refers specifically to the variegated type, calling it “Phantom Nishiki” is actually a bit redundant.
