PUKUBOOK Succulent picture book

CRASSULACEAE Aeonium 'Voodoo'

Also Known As JA ブードゥ

A hybrid between A. undulatum and A. arboreum 'Zwartkop' , this plant is a sibling of 'Cyclops'. It features red leaves with a green center—a trait it shares with 'Cyclops', although in 'Cyclops' this effect tends to be even stronger. While it’s another dark-toned Aeonium like 'Zwartkop', it doesn't go quite as black. Instead, its coloring ranges from deep red to wine red, with thick, glossy leaves. But what really sets it apart is its massive rosette, often over 30 cm across. To hold up that kind of size, its stem grows thick and sturdy. It grows tall, too, and the flowers are unusually large. With only a few offshoots, it rarely forms clusters and usually stands alone. Think of it as a giant on the scale of goldenrod—totally eye-catching! By the way, "Voodoo" refers to a traditional religion originating in West Africa, which values connections to nature and ancestors. That dark, spooky image with things like cursed dolls? That's just a Western stereotype (laughs); in reality, the religion itself isn't dark at all.
