With their slender leaves coated in a white powder, these plants have an unexpectedly unique look that doesn’t quite fit the typical Agave image. They’re generally thought to be a hybrid between Butterfly Agave A. potatorum and Agave macroacantha A. macroacantha , but given their appearance—and the fact that they’re also known as “Fuki Awase Kaminari” in China—I’m going to float a new theory: what if they’re actually a cross between Agave stricta A. stricta and Butterfly Agave instead? By the way, there’s already a known hybrid of Agave macroacantha and Butterfly Agave called Agave 'Hakkouraijin' A. 'Hakkouraijin' .
