One of the sparkling "Jelly Beans Trees" that's been turning heads on the market since 2024. Its leaves are about 1mm wide when dry, and swell to approximately 1cm when full of water—compact, barrel-shaped, and always neat. The way light dances off the leaves, as if dusted with glitter or pearlescent powder, gives this plant an almost otherworldly shimmer and makes its appearance truly look like the much-talked-about Drosanthemum 'Skilpad' itself. "Skilpad" means "turtle" in Afrikaans, and with the existence of the Skilpad Nature Reserve in South Africa, there could be some geographical connection or inspiration. In China, it's supposedly known as "Bingjing Zhigan" (氷晶枝干, meaning "Ice Crystal branch"), and some refer to a similar plant as "Ice Crystal"—though honestly, Drosanthemum trade names are often so ambiguous it's hard to say for sure.
