Once again, my quirky, collector's mindset kicked in, and I found myself bringing home a plant with a mysterious charm. In a catalog of Drosanthemum, I spotted an oddball entry standing out among the rest: "Silver Silkworm." A brand-new cultivar? But wait—this definitely doesn't look like a Drosanthemum, does it? I couldn't help but wonder, but instead of hesitating, I was immediately drawn in by its enigmatic vibe and clicked 'add to cart' without a second thought.
Just look at it—like a tiny white serpent, with thin, papery, white scales layered over one another. Isn't this the classic look of an Avonia?
When I did some digging, I found that in Chinese, "Papyracea A. papyracea " is sometimes called "silver silkworm." Aha! It also bears a resemblance to "Albissima A. albissima " and "Recurvata A. recurvata ," so there might be a bit of overlap among these species.
