DETAIL

A genuinely rare find with a look completely unlike the usual Dudleya image—so different from the "Queen of White" nickname these plants are known for. If you search online, you'll see people saying its slender, green leaves are sticky and "catch and digest insects for food," but in my own plant, the leaves aren’t sticky at all—instead, they have a waxy coating with a sort of grippy, non-slippery texture. While the rarity is often what gets spotlighted in plant books, I personally think its truly adorable white flowers deserve the most attention! This is a species native to southern California, where in the wild you’ll find it clinging to open rocky crevices, looking wonderfully sun-hardy. It resembles D. albiflora , another Dudleya, but where that species is dusted in white powder, this one has almost none and is a simply bright green. Totally unrelated, but its vibe is somewhat reminiscent of T. pearsonii and other Tylecodons.
