PUKUBOOK Succulent picture book

EUPHORBIACEAE Euphorbia bosseri

Also Known As JA ボセリー

Dead sticks? Fragments of coral? Nope, it’s alive. With its muted pink and rusty-red skin covered in grayish-green mottled patterns, and countless flat, plastic-like smooth branches spreading out, this is a Euphorbia that perfectly lives up to its English nickname: the "Zombie Plant." If that makes you think of E. platyclada , you’re absolutely right. In 2021, the two were published as one and the same species. Actually, since this “Bosseri” was described five years earlier in 1965, it turns out that’s the official name. They look pretty much identical in photos, but since they were once considered different species, there might be some subtle differences out there... Although details remain unclear (one retailer even claims, “They’re totally different. Bosseri is darker, almost blackish, and forms a caudex.” see here—but is that really true?). The scientific name honors botanist Jean Marie Bosser.
