With its thick, frilled-edged leaves, this adorable caudiciform Euphorbia is native only to a very restricted area in the Tulear region of southwest Madagascar. As it grows, it can become a small shrub about 20–30 cm tall. Perhaps because its range is so limited, it is classified as a critically endangered species. Growth is slow, and it’s said that the caudex won’t enlarge if left exposed—which can make caring for it a real puzzle! There’s also another Euphorbia with a similar name, E. milii var.tulearensis , but they are different species.
