Because it produces baby plants one after another from its leaves, it's called the "Mother Leaf," and some say that growing it brings happiness. It closely resembles K. 'Kuronchoe' , and the two are often not clearly distinguished when sold, but this one can be identified by its bell-shaped flowers that hang downward. Due to this characteristic, it is sometimes classified differently from other Kalanchoe species—sometimes as part of the Kalanchoe subgenus Bryophyllum, or even as its own separate genus, B. pinnatum . Its vigorous ability to multiply can cause it to behave like a weed, so it has been listed as a species to watch out for by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment. Please be careful not to let small offshoots escape into the wild.
