A prickly pear cactus with strikingly long white spines. Its iconic look is especially inspired by a variety known in the past as "Ursina O. erinacea var.ursina ", which was once considered a separate species. This cactus is found throughout mountainous areas—including rocky slopes and dry pine or oak forests—mainly in California and Nevada, from the Mojave Desert to the southern Great Basin Desert and up to altitudes of 2,800 meters. While it's almost never seen in Japan, it's widely distributed as a common species in the United States.
