A rare, cool-looking cactus with a body like a cluster of slender pipes, and sharp, white, blade-like spines reminiscent of a finely crafted sword. It used to be classified under Opuntia and is often sold as Cylindropuntia because of its appearance; however, from a scientific standpoint, it is now considered the same species as either Grusonia parishii G. parishii or Grusonia emoryi G. emoryi .
