Among the adorable, plump-leaved Pachyphytum varieties, the "Compactum" stands out with its charmingly angular, multi-faceted leaves. True to its name, it's compact in size, sprouting dense clusters of thick, chunky leaves about 1 cm long. In summer, its color is a solid deep green, but come autumn, it undergoes a dramatic transformation—its leaves turn a striking purple as they blush with fall color. This vivid hue is so memorable that it's sometimes sold under the label "Amethyst" (some say that's actually a different species, Pachyphytum glaucum P. glaucum , while others argue glaucum is simply a synonym for Compactum…). This type is distributed under the name "Chiyoda no Matsu," but in fact, Pachyphytum longifolium P. longifolium tends to be more prevalent. For more details, see its entry.

Acho fantástico que as folhas do Pachyphytum compactum nascem tão compactadas que elas ficam com as marcas das folhas ao lado. Inclusive por conta disso essa planta é conhecida popularmente como planta diamante https://t.co/NDyvPLfIFI
Pachyphytum Compactum (pak-ee-FY-tum kom-PAK-tum) has short stems and tightly branched leaves forming a closely-set rosette near the top. Its name means "Thick Leaves" in Greek and this succulent experiences growth in the winter. It is native to Mexico. #pachyphytumcompactum https://t.co/6fA00IKCZE
