DETAIL

With tightly packed, upright leaves that look just like pointed jelly beans, it has the classic appearance of a Sedum, much like S. burrito . But those glossy leaves turn a deep purple, giving this Sedeveria an unexpected, almost un-Sedum-like vibe. It's a variety not well-known in Japan, but it was bred by the legendary Echeveria hybridizer Dick Wright, with S. stahlii and E. affinis as its parents. There's a feeling it might be the original variety behind the 2023 newcomer S. 'Black Beauty Variegated' , so it's drawing fresh attention. It looks a lot like S. 'Whitestonecrop' , another hybrid sharing one of the same parents, but this one grows much larger. By the way, "beads" is the same as the beads used in jewelry-making, so the name isn't pronounced "bizu”; rather, the name seems to have spread from the Korean term 비즈 (biju, bijeu).
