Thelocactus is all about the spines. Long, dramatic, perfectly displayed spines radiate across spherical bodies like botanical fireworks. Once grouped with Echinocactus, these plants were separated thanks to their pronounced wavy tubercles. The name comes from the Greek word thele, meaning “nipple,” which explains why they sometimes resemble Mammillaria at first glance.
