A striking ball cactus covered in tough spines with an ivory-like translucence, featuring eye-catching red gradients atop its matte green, soft body. The name may come from the way these color shifts resemble a hawk’s feather. Since these plants are often grown from seed, there’s a fair amount of variation among individuals in terms of spine thickness and density. Ideally, you’ll want to compare a few plants before making your choice. Green-bodied cacti are sometimes thought to be heat-sensitive, but at least in this case, it has handled direct sun even on days over 36°C remarkably well.
