Someone should make a list of all the plants that were supposed to cure syphilis. Just in North America you have sassafras, candelilla (euphorbia antisyphilitica), and blue cardinal flower (lobelia siphilitica)

I'm sure Joseph Gerhard Zuccarini meant well when he named candelilla/wax plant "Euphorbia antisyphilitica", but Euphorbia cerifera is a much better name. Another excellent synonym is Euphorbia occulta.
