Someone should make a list of all the plants that were supposed to cure syphilis. Just in North America you have sassafras, candelilla (euphorbia antisyphilitica), and blue cardinal flower (lobelia siphilitica)
@Zer0Doxy Euphorbia antisyphilitica is my best guess
I'm sure Joseph Gerhard Zuccarini meant well when he named candelilla/wax plant "Euphorbia antisyphilitica", but Euphorbia cerifera is a much better name. Another excellent synonym is Euphorbia occulta.
I don't think it actually cures syphilis, but with a name like that it really should. #euphorbiaantisyphilitica
