Geohintonia mexicana这是一种个性十足的仙人掌，沙色带点灰调的本体，配上锐利深刻的棱脊，整体给人一种酷感又成熟的气质。它与生活在附近的阿兹特克球属的 A. hintonii 一同，于上世纪90年代在墨西哥东北部的新莱昂州被发现。由于分布范围极其有限，再加上过度采挖，目前已被列为极度濒危物种(不过现在已由当地人严格保护，红色名录的评级也因此有所下调)。在所有仙人掌中，这一品种的生长速度尤其缓慢，长到几厘米高可能需要5到6年。虽然已经开始人工繁育，但数量依然稀少，也因此成为高价仙人掌的代表。
