Kalanchoe blossfeldiana正如其名，绽放出一簇簇鲜红花朵的红弁慶，常常作为花苗而不是多肉植物，在花店里都能见到。通常以“长寿花”这个名字出售的就是它。厚实多汁的叶片充满多肉植物的特色。相比普通花卉，它更耐干旱，因此即使不能经常浇水，或者在阳光充足的道路旁、公园花坛等地方，也能表现出色。原种最典型的是四瓣红花，不过随着品种改良的推进，现在已经有橙色、黄色、重瓣、斑叶和粉色叶片等各种各样的变种和花色可供选择。
