Among the basic species of Agave parryi A. parryi , this is the earliest one discovered. It is characterized by its thick, waxy white body, elliptical leaves, and leaves that generally do not grow larger than 30–40 cm in length. This species is native to central to southeastern Arizona. Unusually for a basal species, it is sometimes referred to by its full name in katakana as "Parīparī."
