This rare aloe, well-known among serious aloe enthusiasts, is found only on Mayotte Island in the Comoro Islands, northwest of Madagascar. Aloe mayottensis has a look that’s slimmer and more agave-like than most aloes. Normally, its leaves are a blue-tinged green as shown in the photo, but they turn shades of brown to orange when exposed to strong sunlight and dryness. Since it’s a tropical aloe, it doesn’t tolerate cold well, so it’s recommended to keep it above 10°C.
