A solitary giant towering over the dry, thorny forests of Madagascar—Aloe suzannae. While there are many so-called tree aloes native to Africa and Madagascar, none embody the single, unbranched silhouette quite like this suzannae. Its unwavering, vertical trunk is both its absolute individuality and unmistakable charm. It's said to reach up to about 5 meters at maturity. By then, its crown forms a dazzling rosette of blue-gray to emerald green leaves, while old leaves remain clinging to the trunk, so from a distance it appears as if a giant is wrapped in a fur coat.
That said, suzannae is especially known for its extremely slow growth. It's almost never seen as a towering giant in the horticultural world; as a youngster, it looks nothing like a broad-leaved giant. Instead, the leaves stand rigid and upright, and the plant strives to stretch itself to many times the height of its short trunk. The foliage, usually a chic blue-gray with a silvery hue, may turn to a subdued orange under stress, giving it a mature appearance. Combine it with a tall pot, and it resembles a piece of modern art. Because it grows slowly and rarely produces offsets, it's quite difficult to propagate. Only after surpassing 50 cm in height do its distinctive characteristics emerge and specimens appear on the market. There’s just no element that allows its price to be reasonable—it's definitively a premium aloe.
It hails from southwest Madagascar. The name "suzannae" was dedicated to Suzanne, the daughter of French naturalist Raymond Decary. Though it was once classified as an aloe, it is now formally placed in the genus Aloestrela (Aloestrela suzannae), a result of evolutionary studies revealed by genetic analysis. However, for horticultural purposes, it is perfectly reasonable to treat it as an aloe.

スザンナエ枯らしたらトラウマもんだなぁ 今の所順調だけど、流石に他のアロエより乾きやすい土に植えて完全に乾いてから潅水してる。 子株吹いてくれたらいいのに、、
