CRASSULACEAE Echeveria 'Afterglow'

Also Known As JA アフターグロウ

DETAIL

A hybrid between @ and @ . With its large, graceful appearance typical of cante and a size exceeding 25 cm, it’s guaranteed to be the star of any succulent garden. “Afterglow” in English means “sunset glow,” “afterlight,” or even “the lingering feeling of success”—a fitting name for its dreamy atmosphere. Personally, this is not only my favorite among Echeveria, but one of my very top succulents overall! The downside? It’s not easy to propagate, so it’s not often found for sale... And here's a little-known tidbit no one in the world knows (okay, slight exaggeration): the name “Afterglow” has been trademarked by Proven Winners North America LLC.

FEATURES/ORIGINFeatures/Origin

With the size and brilliance of @ and the elegance of @ , Afterglow is a superb Echeveria hybrid that radiates beauty. Its bright purple gradient and delicate pink edges create a look that's a bit more sophisticated and mature than cante alone. “Afterglow” in English refers to “sunset glow,” “afterlight,” or even “the lingering feeling of success”—an atmosphere that suits this plant perfectly.

What about subrigida?

Afterglow is said to be a hybrid of cante and shaviana, but sometimes it’s described as a cross between @ and shaviana. This is because, in the past, there was no clear distinction between subrigida and cante—so both claims are essentially referring to the same cross.

There are other "sibling" hybrids with the same parents, such as @ and @ .

POINTCare Points

How to propagate... Leaf cuttings are tough—be brave and try beheading!

Afterglow is notorious for being difficult to propagate by the classic Echeveria method of leaf cuttings. It rarely sprouts this way, which is why it’s not so easy to multiply. If you dare to try stem cutting (“beheading”), however, you’ll get new side shoots, making it possible to increase your plant count.
