If you ever spot a tiny, perfectly round agave that's so cute it looks like a little egg—and it happens to come with a surprisingly high price tag (laughs)—meet this little plant: "Pumila". According to old sources, it's been known since around 1880, which means humans have been growing it for nearly 140 years, and yet its true identity remains a mystery. That just adds to the drama! (It's rumored to be a natural hybrid of A. victoriae-reginae and A. lechuguilla —as if it secretly carries royal blood.) While it's famous for its small size, as it matures it can grow to a respectable 30cm or so. Some say it's tough to grow, while others claim it's relatively easy, but everyone agrees on one point: "It grows very slowly." Enjoy a long friendship with it in its miniature form, and let yourself get caught up in its mystery.
