Introducing this super photogenic and Instagrammable Sempervivum species. It’s native to the Balkan Peninsula, from Macedonia down to part of Greece. The name ciliosum means "having lots of fringes."

Rosettes measure about 2–5 cm across. The leaves not only curl up into a ball, but also sprout long, fuzzy hairs that protect any gaps! Because the entire rosette gets wrapped in fluffy down, it ends up looking just like a felted craft figurine—soft and round, and when it blushes red or pink, it’s absolutely adorable! This species is found in the Balkan Peninsula, from Macedonia to parts of Greece. Though it's often called 'Boricii', that name is now considered a synonym for this ciliosum.
Ciliosum means "having lots of fringes." It’s pronounced something like "silio-sum" in English.
In the past, there were various subspecies and varieties, but they are now largely unified into two main groups.
This subspecies is also from the Balkans, but is found only in the north, specifically the southwestern part of Macedonia. The name... octopodes? Like "octopus"?
