With its deep green leaves and reddish-pink flowers that really stand out, this popular succulent is often seen by front doors in residential neighborhoods. Rather than being strictly recognized as a succulent, it’s frequently sold at florists and simply called “Aptenia.” The variegated Baby Sun Rose A. cordifolia f.variegata is especially well known, but the original species, Aptenia cordifolia, holds its own and remains just as popular. Lately, it even seems to have picked up the nickname "Green Sun Rose" from Baby Sun Rose. Its ability to grow in shade, along with the typical succulent trait of drought resistance, adds to its charm. The scientific name means "heart-shaped leaf," and overseas, it’s literally called the heartleaf ice plant.
