A sudden mutation of the classic, picture-perfect columnar cactus with upright, blue-white skin and sharp spines—Trichocereus macrogonus T. macrogonus —this variety has lost both its spines and pronounced ribs, resulting in a smooth, sleek single column. Because of its unusual appearance, it was named 'Chinpo-kaku' (Rare Treasure Pillar). There are also playful nicknames like 'Naruhodo-bashira' (the "I see!" Pillar), inspired by people's reactions of surprise or amusement. Totally unrelated, but I'll drop a link to Myrtillocactus geometrizans 'Fukurokuryuzinboku' M. geometrizans 'Fukurokuryuzinboku' here as well. Not related at all!
