PUKUBOOK Succulent picture book

AGAVACEAE Yucca recurvifolia

Also Known As JA 君ヶ代蘭

Although it resembles Y. gloriosa , this Yucca has leaves that curl and droop about halfway down, giving it a softer, more gentle appearance. Like Y. gloriosa , it has been cultivated in Japan since long ago. The Japanese name "Kimigayoran" was actually given by Dr. Tomitaro Makino. Interestingly, when this plant was first introduced to Japan, the Koishikawa Botanical Garden initially thought it was Y. gloriosa , only to learn later that this was a mistake. So, in fact, this variety represents Japan's very first encounter with Yucca—and its connection to the country goes back even further than Y. gloriosa .
