Pachypodium lamerei최대 6m를 넘는 크기로 자라는 거목 파키포디움입니다. グラキリウス처럼 뚱뚱한 뿌리 덩어리와 가느다란 가지가 조화를 이루는 형태가 아니라, 뿌리 부분이 두툼하긴 해도 전체적으로는 균일한 두께를 가진 줄기가 특징입니다. 또한 줄기 끝에 큰 잎이 펼쳐져, 멀리서 보면 야자수처럼 보이기도 합니다. 하지만 줄기 전체는 길고 단단한 가시로 빽빽하게 덮여 있다는 점이 다릅니다.
