Pachypodium lamerei巨型的Pachypodium，有时高度可超过6米。与根块呈胖圆形、枝条细长的グラキリウス不同，它虽然基部较粗，但整体来看形态较为均匀，分枝较少，树干顶端会长出大大的叶片，从远处看，外观有些像棕榈树。不过，它的树干却被又长又结实的刺密密麻麻地覆盖着。
