This is a variegated form of A. isthmensis , featuring thick, sturdy leaves with jagged edges and striking red spines. It shares similarities with the variegated Agave isthmensis 'Ohi Kabutogani' f.variegata A. isthmensis 'Ohi Kabutogani' f.variegata , which has separated spines, or with Agave potatorum Kisshou-kan' f.variegata, which is more compact and has even thicker leaves. Sometimes, "variegated Isthmensis" can also refer to Agave potatorum 'Ouhi Raijin' A. potatorum 'Ouhi Raijin' , but this is considered a separate line and a different cultivar. "Atomic Gold" isn't seen overseas and might just be a nickname used in Japan. While not all "Atomic Gold" specimens are exactly the same as the variegated 'Raitei', they seem to be closely related or grouped together.
