A large agave, closely related to A. angustifolia , with long, slim, blade-like leaves that spread out in a strikingly upright, straight fashion. It is native to the mountainous regions of central Mexico. While it's well known that tequila is made from agave, which agave exactly? The answer is a particular cultivar of Agave tequilana called "Weber's Azul" (all plants are propagated by cuttings, so they're said to be clones of each other). This cultivar is larger and has a bluer cast compared to the typical species. Its fast growth and ability to produce lots of offsets have long made it popular. Nowadays, official regulations state that more than half of all tequila must be made using this very Agave, making it the one true tequila agave. For more details, see Special Feature Tequila.

@MexiCAN_Raza Además está la “denominación de origen”. De acuerdo a la NOM-006-SCFI-2012, el Tequila solo se produce con Agave Tequilana Weber cultivado en los 125 municipios de Jalisco, 8 de Nayarit, 30de Michoacán, 11 Tamaulipas, 7 de Guanajuato. Puedes hacer mezcal con cualquier agave.
