アメリカ南部テキサス州に分布。成長して40～60cmくらいの中型種。細く長い葉を伸ばすシャープな印象。アガベの例に漏れず花茎を2mくらい伸ばすけど、花は緑色でちょっと地味かな。 ローファンサ A. lophantha や ヘテラカンサ A. heteracantha はこの種のシノニム。ローファンサで見かけることが多いです。葉がストライプに彩られる「クアドリカラー／五色万代 A. univittata 'Quadricolor' 」という園芸品種が人気です。
