Native to southern Texas in the United States. This medium-sized species grows to about 40–60 cm tall. With its narrow, elongated leaves, it has a sharp and striking appearance. Like most agaves, it produces a flower stalk up to around 2 meters tall—but its green flowers are rather understated. A. lophantha and A. heteracantha are synonyms for this species, though it's often labeled as A. lophantha . The variegated cultivar 'Quadricolor' A. univittata 'Quadricolor' , with its boldly striped leaves, is especially popular among gardeners.
