The leaves alone can reach several meters, and when it blooms, this gigantic Agave can grow up to about 10 meters tall. What’s more, after flowering, the plant undergoes “senescence” and dies… Truly grand and dramatic. Still, no matter how theatrical it all sounds, it feels a bit grim to think about the plant dying (not to mention, just how do you deal with disposing of that 10-meter-tall flower…)—but perhaps that's being too practical. Both the huge inflorescence and the towering “remains” can be seen at the Sakuya Konohana Kan botanical garden in Osaka.
